Choosing The Best Paint Sprayer Rental For Your Project
The most common rental available in paint and home improvement stores is the airless sprayer. These siphon paint container and spray at a high rate of pressure. I own three airless sprayers and use them to spray everything from stain and enamel to pigmented lacquer and paint. For big painting and staining projects, an airless sprayer will save you an enormous amount of time.
Here are a few considerations when choosing a rental:

Airless Rental Vs Hvlp

Most paint sprayer rentals are airless models, but it is possible to rent an HVLP. The HVLP sprayer operates at a significantly lower pressure setting than an airless, using a compressor to deliver air to the spray gun with less over-spray and a finer finish. These are good only for small projects because they spray slower and only hold one to two quarts of paint.
Another option is to rent a handheld airless sprayer that operates off a rechargeable battery. These are cheaper to rent and work awesome for spraying a few doors and other small projects.

Where Can I Find The Best Deals On Renting A Paint Sprayer At Home Depot
If paint spraying is your chosen way of painting, you might want to know where you can find the best deals on renting a paint sprayer at home depot. While paint sprayers can be quite expensive to buy, paint sprayer rentals give you the chance to try out paint spraying before making a decision on whether or not it is for you.
The best deals on renting paint sprayers are usually offered by companies that also offer paint supplies and paint equipment other than just paint sprayers. One paint supply company that is known for providing paint sprayers to home depots paint departments in addition to paint supplies, paint equipment, and paint ingredients is Prime-Line Products.
Prime-Line Products paint supply division is called PrimeCo Supply. They are known for supplying paint guns, paint sprayers, paint outlets, paint mixing systems, paint valves/controls, paint supplies, and paint ingredients to the paint department of Home Depot.
When you rent a paint sprayer from PrimeCo Supply, you will get a paint supply package that includes your chosen paint sprayer with an adapter for each paint gun being rented.
The rental comes complete with a can of paint plus edging paint supplies and paint ingredients. When you finish paint spraying your project, simply clean the paint sprayer and return it for a new paint job.

Affordable Paints At Lowes
One of the cheapest paint brands at Lowes is Valspar. You can use Valspar paint for a variety of interior and exterior surfaces.
One gallon of Valspar ExpressCoat will cost you about $15 per gallon and comes in a multitude of colors. This paint is great for rental and commercial use!
However, the highest quality brand at Lowes will cost you a bit more. Sherwin Williams Ceiling Paint starts at $40 per gallon and the brands exterior Weathershield paint will cost about $55 per gallon.
What Spray Tip Is Included

A rental usually includes one spray tip, but the tip size might be incorrect for your painting project. For example, if you’re painting cabinets you should use a 310 fine finish tip, but the rental might come with a 517, which is way too big for cabinets, but fine for spraying siding and interior walls.
If the rental doesn’t come with the tip you need, you can buy one for around $40. I really like the blue and green RAC-X spray tips from Graco and use them on all of my projects. For a finer finish, the green Graco FFLP tips are awesome for cabinets and trim. Always be sure to choose the right tip size for what you’re spraying.

Before Buying A New Paint Sprayer
Before getting one, consider if you need it for a big job, like painting the whole houseinside and outor only one room. If you plan to paint a room or two, you’ll be better off with a roller and a paintbrush.
But, if you’re a new do-it-yourself homeowner and plan to do a lot of your home renovations or maintenance, buying a new paint sprayer may be a good investment. It used to be that a paint sprayer of the past cost thousands of dollars and was only a tool fit for a paint professional, but now, the prices have come down considerably, making ownership much more affordable and worthwhile.
A great benefit of paint sprayers is that they allow you to override bumps, gaps, cracks, and other surface imperfections that cause paint rollers or brush problems. Detail work is a little easier with paint sprayers, like corners and trim work on cabinets that are easier to paint with a paint sprayer. A downside is that preparation work for painting with a paint sprayer requires more time than rollers or brushes. Every surface that you will not paint must be covered. Also, you will use more paint in volume than a roller or paintbrush.
Not everyone needs to buy a paint sprayer. If you do not plan on doing your own painting or do not have big plans after one small project, you should consider renting a paint spraying unit, borrowing one, or buying a used spraying unit.
How Detailed Will You Need To Get With Your Paint Spraying
High-volume, low-pressure paint sprayers are the best for more detailed work, like painting trim, molding, and cabinets. Airless sprayers are not helpful in precision situations. Similarly, a pneumatic gun is the hardest to control due to its overspray, requiring you to mask off entire sections and everything around. You might get more of a mess than you bargained for when using a pneumatic gunalthough the automotive industry swears by them.

Can You Put Normal Paint In A Sprayer
The answer to this problem is the use of new synthetic resins, most of which can be used as water-soaked paints they have a thinner consistency and are not tough at spraying from a paint bottle. With todays aerosol can and airless gun, you can spray paint latex paint without having to wear a mask.
Types Of Paint Sprayers
The paint sprayer you get should be a good match for how you intend to use it. Paint sprayers start cheap and get expensive fast. Professional painters usually purchase paint sprayers running into the thousands of dollars. Thankfully, this handy tool’s prices have decreased, making it more accessible for DIYers. The three main types are an airless paint sprayer, a pneumatic air sprayer, and an HVLP sprayer.

Why Rent A Paint Sprayer
Here are a few good reasons why you might consider renting a paint sprayer for your painting or staining project:
1. Versatility. Airless paint sprayers are awesome for painting cabinets, walls, ceilings, paneling, fencing and even window shutters. Depending on the type of sprayer you choose, you can spray a variety of coatings too including latex paint, lacquer, stain, polyurethane, solvent-based primer and paint and enamel. With an airless sprayer, thinning your paint usually isn’t required.
2. Cost. A paint sprayer rental from a paint store is typically $25 to $100 per day, depending on the size of the sprayer. Large airless sprayers on wheels usually cost more to rent than a smaller skid model without wheels.
A Home Depot paint sprayer rental is a little more pricey than other stores, starting at a rate of $76 for four hours, while Lowes charges only $70 for four hours. Unless you absolutely need a sprayer on wheels, you can lower the rental cost by renting a skid model. Paint stores and equipment rental shops usually offer the best deals.
The cost to buy a sprayer depends on a variety of factors, but expect to spend over $1,000 for a brand new pro contractor model from Graco, or Titan. I paid close to $2,000 for my Graco 495 Ultra Max airless. I still use the sprayer to this day, ten plus years later. Cheap paint sprayers from home improvement stores are in the range of $200 to $500, but often have performance limitations with pumps that don’t last long.
Picking The Right Gun Tip
Many spray guns have interchangeable tips. Which one you choose depends on the coating you’re applying and the size of your work piece. Manufacturers use a numbering system that’s easy to decipher: The first digit refers to half the width of the spray, or fan, from 12 inches away, and the rest of the number denotes the size of the opening in thousandths of an inch. For example, a “517” has a 10-inch-wide fan and a .017-inch orifice. Below are general guidelines for orifice sizes matched to coatings, but consult the manufacturer’s literature.
Lacquers, shellacs, stains, and water sealer: .009 to .013
Enamels: .013 to .015
Oil-based coatings and interior latex paints: .013 to .017
