Ppg Top Interior Paint Color For 2021 Paint Color Palette
While Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore choose one main color for their color of the year designations, PPG Paints actually selects three paint colors that can be used as stand-alone shades, or can be paired together for a perfectly designed paint palette.
The first color, Transcend, is a warm neutral paint color that would most easily be classified as a beige. It is a medium depth shade that has a touch of red in it, making it the perfect blend of invigoration and warmth.
This paint color reminds you of sandy beaches or the color of a baby fawn. It is a very nature-inspired shade.
The second color of PPGs 2021 paint palette is Big Cypress. This warm reddish orange, with more than a hint of a pink undertone, is a great match for other warm touches, such as red woods and gold metals.
Big Cypress is a great paint color for your walls, and it will give the room a feeling of comfort, warmth and calm.
Misty Aqua rounds out PPGs 2021 paint color palette. It is a light, bright blue paint color that both contrasts with and coordinates with Transcend and Big Cypress.
Misty Aqua is a calming blue paint color that will make you feel stable and serene.
While these colors can be used as stand alone paint colors, they also work nicely together, creating a palette of calming hues that will promote a sense of relaxation, warmth and tranquility.
Amethyst And Slate Grey
Amethyst is a rich purple color, named after the precious stone. It conjures up feelings of royalty. In a room, it brings an added layer of opulence to even the drabbest of spaces.
Because of its connotations to jewelry, anything in keeping with this theme will work. Slate grey brings it right back to the earth and the rock it was hewn from. This gives the purple a blank canvas to shine.
Alternatively, go for something that mirrors the gold jewelry look. You can pick yellows, some with tones, even verging on browns, to sit next to it. Golden features such as lamps and tables will work perfectly in tandem with it.
Aegean Teal By Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore selected a soft, soothing blue-green for its 2021 color of the year. Aegean Teal 2136-40 marries the tranquil nature of blue with green’s association with wellness, while a gray undertone keeps the color modern. Hannah Yeo, color marketing and development manager at Benjamin Moore, calls it “an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to take a moment to reflect and reset.” The color’s calming qualities make it an excellent choice for bedrooms or home offices, and its casual elegance shines on kitchen cabinetry or built-ins.
Aegean Teal joins 11 other organic hues that comprise Benjamin Moore’s 2021 color trends palette. The collection includes buttery yellows, creamy off-whites, and deep earthy hues that pair beautifully with Aegean Teal’s cool undertones. To enhance the palette’s warmth, Yeo suggests decorating with natural materials such as wood, stone, and brick for a balanced, textured look.

Design And Color Trends
Last year, pre-Covid, I forecasted the new trend in warm, saturated paint colors like russet, bronze, burnt orange and the like. I saw this as the need for colors which seem to offer a warm embrace. Those colors took off like a bang in 2020, helping to lead the design-o-sphere away from all things grey.

Get Cozy With An Earthy
Since 2020 was a stressful year for pretty much everyone, a lot of interior designers are leaning into cozy and comforting wall colors for 2021. Sherwin Willams’ Sue Wadden told Good House Keeping that their “Color of the Year” for 2021 is their “rooted in nature” Urbane Bronze SW 7048. She explains that the nature-inspired hue “creates a sense of calm by conveying safety and security.” She added, “I recommend painting it on all four walls for a cozy, cocoon feeling.”
Another designer, Erika Woelfe of Behr also says comforting earthy colors will be trending this year: “In 2021, warm and engaging earthy tones will continue to thrive as DIYers look to elevate their comfort zones with inviting and natural hues.” She gave a few recommendations, too. She says, “xamples include the rejuvenating green Jojoba , adaptable Smoky White and energizing Saffron Strands PPU6-02 from the new BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette.”
Green And Orange Combined
Green has been a firm favorite in the home for several years, however, there are certain shades which are increasing in popularity such as pine, pistachio, and all the colors that go with sage greens. While green works well on its own, pairing it with orange is bringing interior schemes to life and adding a playfully retro feel to the space.
As seen in this image, with fabrics by Colors of Arley , this color combination injects energy and brings fun, happiness and vitality to the home. Dont forget to refer to the 60-30-10 rule when youre decorating to ensure you achieve balance, advises Louisa Tratalos, the founder of Colors of Arley. For example, opt for 60% of the room in green, 30% in your chosen orange and 10% in an accent, such as a soft cream to allow the main colors to do the talking.

Design Trend: Marble Slab Backsplash With A Thin Shelf Above
Im a huge fan of this look. Obviously it wont work with upper cabinets. Were seeing more and more dramatic marbles used with tons of movement and color. This is an expensive and elegant alternative to tiles for a backsplash. Marble is porous and needs to be sealed regularly. Over time it usually shows the scars of wear and youve got to embrace the patina created or the imperfections will drive you mad.
