Update A Red Brick Home With Dark Blue
This updated home was built in 1968. The Color Concierge chose dark blue for the siding and garage door exterior paint colors for a fresh new look. Since colors appear three shades lighter outside, we picked cream instead of white for the trim. Although it reads white, the creamy color keeps it from looking harsh, like primer. Shutters on the second floor were removed, and trim was added to the windows. The painters, New Morning, Inc. did an amazing job!
The front door was painted SW Cyberspace to match the siding and family heirloom stained glass. The shutters, porch roof and trim were painted cream SW Westhighland white to update and brighten the front porch.
Is Painting Brick A Mistake
Is painting brick a mistake? Well, it can certainly go wrong if done incorrectly, but considering that the point of painting your brick is to make your home look good and make it easier to maintain, it is a good idea. You should always ensure that your exterior brick is clean, dry, and adequately primed before you begin the painting process.
Easy And Cozy Red Brick And Grey Paint Combo
Red brick is not only excellent to pair with blue-grey paint. It can also look good when paired with grey paint. This combination is something that will give you an easy and cozy look.
The way to use the paint here is not only limited to adding accents to the home. You can also use it as the second most dominant color for the exterior design.
The photo that you see above is a simple yet excellent example that we found. Here the split between the red brick and the grey paint is very clear. One is used on the first floor, and the other is on the second.
The choice of light grey paint for the siding here creates something interesting. It is a timeless appearance for the house. If the grey shade chosen is darker, the visual might be different.
From the photo above, we can also see a bit of the houses roof. The color chosen for this exterior element is dark grey, and it is compatible with both of the red brick material and the grey-painted siding.

Exterior Accent Colors With Brick
If you want to try to work with the natural tones of your brick, you can always add painted accents on other surfaces of your home. Think elements like window trim, doors, soffits, front porches, etc. If your home has a mix of surfaces youll have more surface area to work with, so youll need to choose your dominant color carefully. In this case, its a good idea to stick to a more neutral color, since any bright tones might overpower the brick.
Whichever surfaces youre dealing with, youll want to consider the color of the brick before choosing your colors. Some are definitely more red, while others might be more brown, or have a more washed out tone to them.
Here are some of our favorite color combinations that pair perfectly with brick as accents:
- Soft yellow with cream
How To Pair Exterior Paint Colors For Brick Homes

My Interest majorly borders on red bricks. Red bricks are very hard to match exterior colors for. to understand what color suits red bricks you have to understand their characters first, Red bricks are more muted and toned down and it will do us good if we keep that in mind while looking for colors. For example, if you were thinking of using white, choose a creamy white as opposed to a bright white. The bright white can sometimes appear a little too harsh against red brick. An off-white will give the appearance of white against the brick, but a little softer.

How Do You Choose An Exterior Brick Paint Color

Wondering how to choose exterior brick paint colors? There are a few things to consider when choosing a paint color for your exterior walls. One of the first things you should consider is what impact you want the color of your home to have not only on your home but on the overall aesthetic of the houses on your street, or even your block depending on the type of neighborhood you live in.
If you just want a color that makes you happy and you dont have to appease a homeowners association, then go with whatever color, tone, and texture speaks to you However, if you enjoy keeping up with the latest trends then you should choose a color thats easy to paint over and can mix well with your future options.
Choosing a paint for your house is important, but the cool thing about painting brick is that the coating can be painted over and even altered if you change your mind, or if trends change. Painting your entire home can be a labor-intensive process though, so we recommend avoiding the latest cool trend and choosing a color, tone, and texture that will stand the test of time.
If you want something timeless but dont want to commit to something too bland you can paint the primary surface with a fairly unassuming color and then go ahead and paint your trim pieces like your shutters or window sills with a more vibrant color. This also makes it a lot easier to update paint colors that might not age so well over time.

Best Exterior Colors For Brick
The paint color choice for your front door, trim, windows, and other exterior elements ultimately comes down to your personal design preferences and what colors you think look best. If you’re stuck, consider these combinations for exterior colors with brick that’s red, orange, neutral, or white.
* Sage green + taupe: Because red and green are complementary colors, these exterior paint colors work well with red brick homes. In a muted shade like sage, the green brings out the color of the brick without overwhelming it.
* Plum + cream or taupe: Neutral brick houses benefit from a dose of rich color, such as plum. When used on the front door or shutters, this deep shade adds dimension and keeps beige or tan brick from looking too bland.
* Cool gray + hunter green: Try this color scheme with warm-toned brick, such as red or orange. Cool shades of gray and green can help balance the brick siding for a subtly colorful palette.
* Forest green + black: For white brick exteriors, consider using darker colors for the painted exterior elements for a high-contrast color scheme. This emphasizes architectural details and creates a crisp, polished look.
