Either hang it around your belt or belt loop with a length of twine or a carabiner, or cut the toe off an old sock and place that on your wrist before slipping on your tape roll as a bracelet.

- Always keep a damp painters rag within an arms reach to wipe a spot of paint off a wall or other surface.

- Use a fan on hot or humid days to speed up dry time for the paint
- Coat your hands and arms with lotion before painting, the paint will wash right off . Remember to reapply after washing your hands!

How To Paint A Wall Easy And Fast
Painting a wall seems pretty basic when you have been doing updates in your home before, but there are still little tricks you can learn to make your life easier.
And if you have never painted anything before, here is how to start:
I have been painting a lot lately and want to share my easy tricks How to paint a wall easy and fast with you.
We moved into a new house six years ago. The whole house was painted brown-beige-green. It was almost unbearable for me to look at these walls.
Of course I started painting right away, as I always do after deciding on a color scheme for the whole house.
I painted all the walls, and I mean all the walls. It was a hard job, but sooo worth it.

Three years ago we moved into our next new house and I started from scratch again. I painted the whole house again .
I also ended up painting the kitchen cabinets because they were brown and dated, so I can say I have some experience.

Paint A Sample Swatch
Once you have sample cans in hand, paint swatches on the wall. To give you a good idea of how the color will look in your space, paint two coats of color in a 12-inch-by-12-inch square. If your room has both sunny and shady spots, it’s smart to put swatches in both areas, as this can affect the final look.
Alternatively, you can paint two coats onto a foam board and tape it to the wall. This is a great option for those who don’t intend to get started right away, as you won’t have to live with random color streaks on your walls.
Pro tip: Use an inexpensive foam brush for this type of sample painting. This way, you won’t dirty a ton of brushes or waste money.
Work With A Painter’s Rod
A painter’s rod, or pole, can help you paint ceilings more quickly no climbing up and down ladders required. And there’s no need to stand directly underneath the area you are painting, so you won’t catch every wayward splatter. A pole is also great for walls and floors. The pros were split over whether the 4- or 8-foot pole is best for everyday use, but they all agreed that a telescoping rod is the best bet.

Paint Trim And Baseboards
After youre done painting the ceiling, its time to move on to the trim, baseboards, and doors.
If your doors dont need a fresh coat of paint, feel free to skip them. If you do need to tackle doors, check out our step-by-step tutorial for how to paint a door.
Heres the general process of painting trim and base:
- Use a 4-inch paint roller cover with 3/8 nap on the edge and front of trim.
- We recommend a semi-gloss paint sheen on trim and baseboards learn why in our paint sheen guide.
- Keep your paint roller filled up and apply the paint fairly heavily so you dont have to apply multiple coats.
- Be sure to make sure the paint isnt too heavy and dripping.
- If multiple coats are needed, wait for each to dry completely before moving on.

Choose Your Color And Get The Right Finish
Whether you’re looking for organic, neutral or bold, statement living room color schemes, picking up a selection of sample pots is always a good idea to see how the hue reacts to the light in your space.

How To Prepare For Painting
Properly painting a room starts with prep work. Heres how to prepare a room for interior house painting.
- Start by removing all the furniture and fixtures you can, including all HVAC registers or outlet covers.
- Carefully inspect surfaces for cracks, holes, dents or other imperfections.
- Use caulk or a lightweight spackling compound with a putty knife to fill and repair any holes or imperfections.
- Remove excess spackling with the putty knife. Let it dry completely.
- Use a small piece of very fine 220-grit sandpaper or a sanding sponge to smooth the repaired areas flush with the surface.
- Wipe the surfaces clean with a damp towel or sponge and allow them to dry.
- Wear old clothes and a hat while painting.
- Whenever you start an interior house painting project, make sure you are working in a properly ventilated space. If the paint fumes are strong, wear a respirator mask.

Upcycle A Plain Piece With Pearl Detailing
Painting bedroom furniture in a fresh new color is a lovely way of breathing life into pre-loved pieces or thrift shop buys that are looking past their best. An easy option that cuts out the prep work is to use chalk paint for the job. Chalk paint is self-levelling and self-sealing, so gives excellent coverage with minimal effort.
Painting a wardrobe, chest of drawers or bedside tables, shouldnt be too difficult a project for a beginner. A bold color, such as black or navy on the exterior will pop with the interior painted in a vibrant contrast color such as hot pink or lipstick red.
Go one better and create a decorative pearlized treatment by painting on a stencilled or freehand design on doors, drawers and side panels. Use contrast white chalk paint to apply your pattern and then add a pearlescent glaze as a final top coat, which will give a subtle shimmer and create an inlaid pearl effect.
Paint Your Walls Like A Pro
Before you begin painting your walls make sure the surfaces are prepared for the job so youre left with a finish to be proud of. Take a look at our Prepping your walls for painting article for handy tips.
Step 1, 7am: To make sure you get a smooth, professional finish, examine the surface of the wall for flaking paint, bumps and holes.
Use filler for any cracks and holes. Let it dry, sand down the surface and seal with sealant. For flaking paint and bumps use a scraper to even the surface before sanding and sealing.
Step 2, 8am: If your previous paint is satin or gloss it’s a good idea to rub the walls down with sandpaper.
Use gentle pressure in a circular motion – this will help to create a layer that’ll help the paint stick.
Step 3, 10am: Clean your wall thoroughly to remove any dirt or dust by diluting some sugar soap in a bucket of water – read the instructions on the product for exact measurements. Make sure you’re dressed for the job and wear gloves and goggles, as sugar soap can be an irritant.
Use a large sponge to apply the mixture and work it into the surface. Next, refill your bucket with clean water and wipe the wall clean.
Step 4, 11am: Once the wall is dry, cover switches, sockets and skirting boards with masking tape. If you’re painting it a different colour to the ceiling or adjacent walls, run masking tape along the edges so you get a nice, clean finish.
Between coats, remove and reapply masking tape to avoid the adhesive removing any paint

Use Cotton Drop Cloths Rather Than Plastic
Spills and spatters happen, regardless of how careful you are. Its a lot easier to prepare for them than to wipe them out of your carpeting or off your wood floor later. All it takes is canvas drop cloths in your work area.
The thick canvas stays in place, so you dont need to tape it, and you can use it to cover any surface. Plastic drop cloths are slippery to walk on or set a ladder on and dont stay in place. Even worse, paint spills on plastic stay wet, and they can end up on your shoes and get tracked through the house. Canvas is slippery on hard oors, so rosin paper is better over vinyl, tile and hardwood. Tape the sheets together and to the oor to provide a nonslip surface.
But even with canvas or rosin-paper drop cloths, large spills still need to get wiped up right away or theyll seep through. Clean spills with paper towels or cloth rags. Likewise, if you splatter paint on any other surface, wipe it up immediately.

Another Tip How To Paint A Wall Easy:
Wait until your paint is completely dry and check if you have unpainted spots. Step back and look also from the distance.
In case you have areas which are not completely covered, paint over them again. Wait again until the paint is dry.
Check thoroughly and if the wall looks good then you can wash your brushes and tray.
I always notice some little spots that I have missed after I have washed my brushes pretty annoying.
If you have never painted before start with a small room or even better if you have a basement, start right there.
Roll On Paint In A W Shape
Fill a paint tray with paint and dip your roller into it, removing excess. Roll the paint onto the wall in a 3-by-3-foot “W” shape. Working your way back across that “w” without lifting the roller, fill in empty patches until that section of wall is fully covered. Continue, adding more paint to the roller as needed, until the whole wall is painted.
Tip: Consider using an extension pole, even on the walls, to make it easier to refill your paint roller and cover your wall more quickly.

Choose Your Painting Technique
Now that your room is prepped and the paint is mixed, youll want to pick your painting technique and sequence.
First, cut in the corners and edges of the wall with an angled brush. While the paint is still wet, use your roller extension pole to roll the rest of your wall, working from top to bottom.
Generally speaking, a best practice is to paint one wall at a time to prevent roller marks. Moreover, use long strokes in a W pattern when rolling the walls.
Certainly, interior paint dries fast. In turn, avoid pesky roller marks by finishing an entire wall first before moving to the next.
If painting all the surfaces in a room, start with the ceilings, then the walls, and paint your trim last.
Dont be afraid to overlap your cut line on the walls when painting ceilings or the trim when painting walls. Accordingly, this order ensures the cleanest lines for novice DIYers painting a room for the first time.
When painting the trim, remove the painters tape and wait for the last coat to dry before taping off the walls.
Start with trim closest to the ceiling like crown molding. Follow that by working your way down to the doors and window sills. Finish by painting the baseboards last.

Clean Up Mistakes While Theyre Wet
If an errant brushstroke should touch down on the wall, dont worrywet paint is pretty easy to clean. If you keep a damp cloth nearby, you can stretch the fabric over a finger and wipe the wet paint off the wall. Just be sure to wad the excess cloth up in your palm to prevent it from touching the wet baseboard.
