Small Kitchen Paint Colors Ideas For Every Taste

Neutral Kitchen Paint Colors | Benjamin Moore | Interior Design Lesson 28

Whether its a floor-to-ceiling, deep charcoal paint, a mix of easy-on-the-eye pastels or a light and bright neutral, small kitchen paint colors should be all about expressing personality.

As Helen Parker, creative director at deVOL says about designing a small kitchen: ‘Color is a completely personal choice and any decision should be primarily based around the atmosphere you want to create, rather than trying to make a small room look big. If you want moody and atmospheric, then go dark or bold, if you want it to look clean and minimal then go for light, pale colors.’

Paint Colors For Small Kitchens

A frequently asked question is, What color should I paint my small kitchen?

Small kitchens are especially common in older homes, as older homes prioritized the living spaces more than the working spaces.

Overall, a light color is going to be the best choice for a small kitchen. This will help the space feel bigger than it is.

Specifically, I would recommend a neutral, yellow, light green or light blue paint color.

Benjamin Moore Bennington Gray Hc

You might be excited at the word gray, but dont be fooled this is just another colour named by someone who was CLEARLY in the cups . While Bennington Gray is certainly not as warm as Macadamia, it sure as heck aint gray.

Bennington Gray has an LRV of 47 BOOM, mad love. Its also a great happy medium if your home NEEDS warmth, but you dont love the more traditional Tuscan approach of Macadamia.

Treron From Farrow & Ball

Like its namesake, a bird known as the green pigeon, Treron is a dark gray-green tone that lends a touch of the outdoors to traditional or modern kitchens. Its a particularly complementary paint color for spaces that showcase other earth tones, such as grays, browns, and creams. Here, Treron wall paneling is paired with off-white cabinetry and houseplants to evoke a fresh, back-to-nature-inspired interior where you can cook and wash up in peace.

Pair with some grey blues and wood accents for a modern but still quite rustic feel.

Some of the upcoming colours make me a BIT twitchy with some cream paint colours but settle okay with others. HOWEVER, they might just give you the flexibility to accommodate NOT JUST YOUR CABINETS, but your other finishes as well, to create a palette that looks purposeful and coordinated.

Light Greige Kitchen Wall Paint Colors

PPG Synchronicity

Here is one last warm greige kitchen. This is a very dark greige paint color, paired with white cabinets and a black countertop. As you can see, the space feels a bit dark, even though it is evident that there is a lot of natural light coming in from the right. Unless you just love this look, I would caution against a dark paint color like this is you dont have a good amount of natural light.

Again, you can pair a dark greige paint with wood cabinets or white cabinets. Since greige paint colors are so versatile and modern, they are a great choice for updating your kitchen walls.

Wall Painting In A Studio Kitchen

Bright solutions to apply for one wall in the room, in the living room area, paint everything in one color.

If there is light brown furniture, you can make one wall light green and white, painted with a light green shade in the living room. In this case, only light furniture should be placed in the living room. The kitchen-studio in red and white color is combined in a modern and beautiful way.

If the walls in the living room are covered with wallpaper, then in the kitchen, you need to paint in a similar shade, and it is better to use wallpaper as well. The application of different shades of the same color is combined well, but applying light colors in the living room, dark in the kitchen.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Repose gray is my go-to paint color for every room in the house! If you’re looking for a whole house paint color, this is one of the most popular choices.

I originally painted the majority of my main floor Repose Gray, then repainted it a few years later but just lightened the color by 50%.

As much as I loved it at full strength, half strength is legitimately the most perfect color for a kitchen with white cabinets, or any room in your home.

The Rising Popularity Of Gray

Gray is a neutral that’s been taking center stage lately in many homes. It often gets categorized as being too cold, but with the right shade, it can work wonders in a kitchen. Sherwin Williams Colonnade Gray 7641

Just like Revere Pewter, Colonnade Gray is TOUCHY with cream paint colours that either have more yellow in them OR more depth to them. But, it can be an interesting partner to creams that are lighter and muted.

This next example shows Colonnade Gray with cream trim in a bedroom. Notice how the cream DOESNT ACT LIKE WHITE, but thats because its not white, but at least its partnered with a modern paint colour!

The thing that makes Colonnade Gray a slightly better option to Revere Pewter is that it has a lower LRV, coming in at 53 to Revere Pewters 55.

While I get AWFULLY nervous about Revere Pewter with the darker cream paint colours, its often a nice partner to lighter, more muted cream paint colours. It will still make the cream look more yellow in comparison, but that happens so easily when you partner a warm colour with a cooler colour.

In this next photo, there are a few things at play

1. The trim is WHITER than the cabinets, making the cabinets look more yellow in comparison. Overall, the trim looks to be a considerably BRIGHT warm colour with a reasonable yellow in it.

2. This is a LOW-LIGHT area and has Revere Pewter looking MUCH muddier than usual.

Revere Pewter has an LRV of 55, making it a HEAVY light depth warm gray with a slightly earthy green undertone that doesnt ALWAYS show up to the party. As it relates to coordinating with cream paint colours, its best if it DOES!

But once again, in this next photo, Revere Pewter looks WAY warmer and muddier than usual

Stonington Gray is a HEAVY, light depth stormy gray paint colour with a passive blue undertone. Because Stonington Gray leans that bit cooler, it can be more reactive with the yellow in cream cabinets or trim. The more MUTED your cream is, the better chance you have of this combo looking great as Stonington Gray NATURALLY prefers white paint colours.

Stonington Gray has an LRV of 59 which means youll have a better shot at it if you darken it by 25%. Adding this bit of extra depth puts it closer to 55 and will give you a bit more flexibility.
