Best Warm White Paint Colors
Warm whites are softer and creamier than cool whites and range in the spectrum of off-whites. Warm whites have an undertone of red and yellow. They work well in rooms that get very little sun because they have a soft and welcoming glow.
Here is a list of many designers favorite warm white paint colors:
Ultra Pure White By Behr
The best-selling Behr bright white is pure by name and pure by nature, with no warming or cool undertones. This provides a clean white canvas for any space. “BEHRs whitest paint is Ultra Pure White,” explains Erika Woelfel, VP of Color & Creative Services at Behr Paint Company . “This clean, crisp and totally neutral white, is a top seller for its effortless ability to fit into any room type of any decorating style.”
Benjamin Moore Ivory White 925
Pair your rich, wooden finishes with Benjamin Moores Ivory White, a creamy white that designer Christina Kim stands behind. Sometimes you need a creamy white, which can be tough to get right. Its easy to veer too yellow, I really love Benjamin Moores Ivory White, she says. This creamy white works best when you envelop the room completely and paint the trim, walls, and ceiling in it.

How To Choose The Best Warm White Paint Color

1. Try Multiple Samples
Bear in mind that the perfect white paint color for a particular space may be completely wrong for another space. The light in Northern Illinois where I reside is quite different from other regions like the Southwest where we bought a second home.
So as you search for a just right white, dont forget YOULL FIRST SELECT A HANDFUL OF OPTIONS and then SAMPLE THEM in your unique space TO BE SURE.
2. Understand Warm vs. Cool Whites
If you understand the difference between a warm and a cool white, youll have an easier time sifting through the possibilities.
Warm whites tend to have warm undertones of green, brown, etc. Cool whites may have blue and grey undertones.
Sometimes it is helpful to clarify what is even meant by warm vs. cool white paint.
For example, in our current home, almost all of the walls are painted a very cool and bright white . This cool white might be all wrong in a different home since it was chosen to counter the harsh yellow light we receive here.

The cool white tempers the color and mood and because of the yellow sunlight, it does not read too sterile or blue.

Benjamin Moore White Dove
We actually chose White Dove for ourhomes exterior because of its warm properties. Its also a top choice for trim if you dont want a stark look. White Dove is a shaded white, so it doesnt look quite as crisp as some of the other options if youre wanting a bright white. But its a great welcoming warm white for walls if you want something a bit cozier!

Stone loves the cool tones in Cabbage White for a primary bedroom because it has a relaxing and calming vibe. “Hands down, Cabbage White is the best white with a hint of blue,” she says. “Research has shown that blue is the best color for sleep, and this color is a subtle way of incorporating the hue.”

The Best White Paint Options Our Top 10
Although it can be tricky to suggest the definitive best white paint for all interiors, if we had to stick all our eggs in one basket, this would be it. Ammonite is a best-seller, and one of the best Farrow & Ball paints, and once on the walls, it’s easy to see why.
It’s a gray-toned white that’s that elusive mix of neither too warm nor too cool, meaning it lends a light and airy look to sun-filled spaces and doesn’t feel cold in a North-facing room.
The depth of tone will add character to a more modern property and look right at home in a period property too.
Bring out the warmth of the shade and create a fresh look by pairing with pure white woodwork, or create more of a statement by contrasting with a darker gray tone.
The off-white Slipper Satin wall paint from Farrow & Ball takes its name from the delicate color of silk used in traditional ballet slippers.
The absence of any cooler undertones means it works perfectly in a North-facing room that’s in need of some uplifting warmth, and whilst a lovely creamy white, it doesn’t have the more obvious yellow-tones common in other warm whites – in case true cream isn’t your thing.
Slipper Satin Farrow & Ball

Inspired by the delicate shade of pink used in traditional ballet slippers, Slipper Satin by Farrow & Ball is a gorgeous off-white. Kate Forman, a former interiors-expert-turned-textile-designer says, “This is the softest off-white of my favorites a pale, chalky white is stunning in big, light rooms.”

Ammonite By Farrow & Ball
From Emily: My current master bedroom in the above pictures is painted this color and if you are looking for the softest, lightest gray that is so warm but not taupe then this is for you. I love how subtle the color is all while bringing some different hues into the home besides white.
We used this light gray back when we did the Curblys dining room, but we still stand behind it. It has a teeny tiny more green to it so its a cooler gray that happens to look really nice with warm wood tones.
We loved it two years ago when we wrote about it, and we still love it now. During Bradys first living room iteration, he picked this color and it worked so nicely with the other warm neutrals he had going on. Its a pretty soft gray that adds depth but still brightens up a room. Not too warm, not too cool, a good happy medium gray.
We wanted to put everything together in one place for you to be able to Pin out and save, but remember that these swatches are just screengrabs from online. Some of these look SO different than they do IRL here so just use these as a reference based on our descriptions, and like I said earlier, test, test, test.
Alabaster By Sherwin Williams
Alabaster LRV: 82
Alabaster was the Sherwin-Williams color of the year a few years back, and for good reason. Its a beautiful white with dusty undertones that make it a really versatile color for interiors. It looks good in kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
In fact I used Alabaster throughout our entire renovated RV. It has quickly become one of my very favorite white paint colors.
Jackie Jordan, the Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing describes Alabaster as:
A hue symbolic of new beginnings, Alabaster , is Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year. At a time of interconnected commotion and overstimulation, Alabaster offers a sense of personal solace and revival to weary minds. It is the true neutral to set the tone
View the color Alabaster on the Sherwin Williams website here.
Compared to White Dove, Alabaster is less creamy and more of a true white. This makes it a great option if you are looking for a naturally flattering hue with little undertone.
I love how the Sherwin Williams director of color marketing describes it, Alabaster is neither stark nor overly warm, but rather an understated and alluring hue of white.
Check out how Alabaster looks in the neutral nursery below.
FAQ: Alabaster or White Dove?
Behr Ultra Pure White
The Spruce
If you’re in search of a perfect white that doesn’t lean too far into any color’s territory, Behr’s Ultra Pure White 91850) is your hue. It’s clean, crisp, and works well with most color schemes. Go bold with bright primary color accents, or keep things minimal with beige, tan, and a few splashes of dark jewel tones.
// Dover White By Sherwin Williams
Dover White by Sherwin Williams is a great option for a whole house or accents, depending on the style and look youre going for. At an LRV of 83, it gives off a calming, relaxing vibe. This is why interior designers often use it for nurseries and kids bedrooms. Its also one of the few warm whites that actually pairs well with cool blues and blue-grays for an interesting contrast. We love using Dover White on brick and other exterior textures.
Warm Gray Paint Colours
To start with, lets talk about warm gray paint colours. While these are technically WARM VERSIONS of gray, this doesnt make them overly warm. And because Ive written blog posts on a few of my faves, were taking things a bit warmer today.
While Colonnade Gray is a BEAUTIFUL warm gray it didnt make the cut as its NOT warm enough!
Timid White Benjamin Moore

“Whites are super tricky, as they reflect light from all nearby sources. The luscious green vegetation outside your window, the warm glow of natural cork flooring, the soft floral hues of dusky pink satin drapery…all those tones will affect how you perceive a painted white surface. We love working with Benjamin Moores OC-39 Timid White. This white is warm, inviting, honey-dusted, and reserved. Timid White tends to commingle beautifully with the subtleties of chromatic adjacencies yet has enough of its own inherent color to hold its own amongst them.” Greg Roth
Edgecomb Gray And Baby Fawn Benjamin Moore
As if paint names were confusing enough already, enter Edgecomb Gray! Its also in Benjamin Moores paint deck as Baby Fawn, but they are the same color. Ill just refer to it as Edgecomb Gray from here on simply because thats its more popular name.
Edgecomb Gray has an LRV of 63.88 and if I had wanted a bit darker of a color in my home, this would have been my number 1 choice! This is an absolutely beautiful warm greige color perfect for a whole house color. Depending on lighting, it can look more beige or it can lean more toward gray . If the other paint colors on this list were too light for your liking, consider Edgecomb Gray!
Sanctuary Sw 9583 Sherwin
Sanctuary from Sherwin-Williams is a warm, welcoming shade designed to evoke calm. “It has just a touch of gray, giving it a soothing effect that’s perfect for a relaxing space like a living room or bedroom,” Wadden says. “If you want your space to feel even more Zen, pair it with greenery and natural materials like wood and stone.”
Farrow & Ball School House White No 291
Designer Cortney Bishop swears by Farrow & Balls Schoolhouse White, a soft off-white that never fails to create a welcoming and comfortable home. Its a timeless off-white that promotes old-world warmth and is a solid foundation that marries architectural features, materials, and accent colors, she shares.
Cornforth White Farrow & Ball
Renee DiSanto of Park & Oak Interior Design says Cornforth White is a mid-toned color, neither too cool or too warm, and extremely versatile. It really looks wonderful in any light. It has proven to be a tried-and-true favorite of her clients. This white tends to sway between white and lightly gray depending on the light, with subtle lavender undertones.
